Where: The Great Hall, Quadrangle Building and Botany Lawns
The Arts and Social Sciences Dean's Undergraduate Faculty Welcome is where you’ll be formally welcomed to your degree in our historic Great Hall in the Quadrangle featuring our annual ‘Ancient Greek Style Debate'. The debate is contested through six selected leaders from the six faculty schools with the winner decided by you, the student audience, and based on applause. This year's topic will be "What is Truth?" and give you an understanding of what it is like to study their subject areas, as they compete to win the coveted laurel wreath.
The Welcome begins with a traditional academic procession and introduction from the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr Carolyn Stott, who will speak to you about the opportunities available as an Arts and Social Sciences student and how you can be successful at the University of Sydney. You’ll then experience firsthand the breadth and depth of academic tradition in our community, with commencement of the "Truth" Debate. Following the debate, you’ll join us for a meet and greet on the beautiful Botany Lawns beside the Great Hall, hosted by the Sydney Arts Students Society (SASS). Here you’ll have the opportunity to ask about getting involved with clubs and societies such as SASS, meet other first year students, senior students, academics and professional staff over a free BBQ lunch.
Please RSVP in the link and we look forward to welcoming you to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
